Install a newer version of python for mac, from http://pythonmac.org/packages/ (python 2.4.4 -> http://pythonmac.org/packages/py24-fat/index.html) (python 2.5 -> http://pythonmac.org/packages/py25-fat/index.html) you have a more "standard" python which allows you to install the modules n a more conventional way I use Smultron (free and open source) or textmate -- http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/python-list
