Martin v. Löwis added the comment: If this feature is contentious, then a PEP is need to decide on it. As it turns out, PEP 436 already discusses the nullable feature. But, as it also turns out, PEP 436 hasn't been accepted yet (at least I could not find any records on that having happened, and the PEP says that it is in draft state).
