Thank you to everyone who participated in January's "By Popular Demand"
survey!

This message is a follow-up specifically directed at industrial users of
PyMOL on Windows. Among other things, the survey re-confirmed one
longstanding request:

"Get PyMOL running INSIDE PowerPoint as an ActiveX Control ASAP!" (or
else...)

Well, I am thrilled to announce that as of yesterday evening, the first test
build of our ActiveX Control was shipped to an informal "club" created to
help test & develop AxPyMOL BETA. Reportedly, it works! So provided that
things continue as expected, AxPyMOL will be completed and available to all
PyMOL sponsors by this time next year, if not sooner.

Note that since Windows is a proprietary closed-source operating system,
Office a proprietary closed-source product, and ActiveX a proprietary
closed-source platform, AxPyMOL will be a product of that ilk as well.
What's even more frightening? For AxPyMOL we are adopting the closed
"consortium" development model so often used & abused by proprietary
software vendors!

However, to help clear the air, we are calling our consortium a "club", we
are asking for only 1/5th to 1/10th the funding of your typical consortium,
our club doesn't require any time-consuming legal paperwork to join, and our
club exists for only one year to meet only one specific well-defined goal:
Delivery of live PyMOL Sessions and Shows INSIDE of PowerPoint.

Membership in the AxPyMOL BETA Club shall be kept to a manageable minimum,
is limited to site-wide or entity-wide PyMOL subscribers, and requires
payment of a modest one-time service fee to fund the work.

So if you meet the above requirements and are interested in joining the club
(& accessing AxPyMOL BETA immediately), then please email sa...@delsci.com
for a quote. Otherwise, stay tuned -- ActiveX PyMOL BETA is now alive and
kicking!

Cheers,
Warren
