That wasn't my experience in SF. I met a lot of Python shops who were using "Pylonesique" stacks. I think it is a pure numbers game if you don't have a ton of long term connections in a city. Heck if you just applied at Python places near the Embarcadero, you would find a ton of Python jobs...
