We're doing a simple combination of PXE boot, kickstart, and internal
repos, which then hands off to puppet. We also use some rvc for vmware
provisioning, which is mostly what happens in our environment.

Not many people appear to be talking about
razor<https://github.com/puppetlabs/Razor/wiki>.
That, plus puppetdb, seems to offer a way to better handle bare metal
provisioning and inventory. Since we're getting into hadoop for a couple
projects which will use a collection of bare metal, it looks compelling,
but we haven't used it yet.
