Thanks to another person who answered a similar question for me a while ago, all of our smp boxes will power down with the following...

title Red Hat Linux (2.4.18-19.8.0smp)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.18-19.8.0smp ro root=LABEL=/ hdc=ide-scsi hdd=ide-scsi vga=0x305 apm=power-off

Append: apm=power-off

to the kernel line in grub.conf...

I wouldn't be surprised if this worked for you, too. Back up your grub.conf first...
