Thanks for the feedback. I've switched off anti-aliased fonts and changed the desktop background to "no picture". It is now usable, but still not as fast as 7.3 was. "magicdev" doesn't seem to have a huge impact on responsiveness. The video card is pretty substandard (Savage4 16Mb) also. Oisin Feeley
