You're correct. Use one of the i586, i686, or athlon kernels instead. i386 and i486 class hardware hasn't been supported in Red Hat Linux since Red Hat Linux 7.0 or 6.2 (I don't recall specifically off the top of my head). An i386 kernel has been supplied, but for reasons other than supporting i386. The minimum system requirements for Red Hat Linux 8.0 are an Intel Pentium or equivalent clone. -- Mike A.
