Yuck.  I hate that in Windows XP, and so do most new users who've seen
it for the first time while I was around (many).  It's the sort of thing
you get used to, but so is "Extras".

I think the best idea would be to go back to the way GNOME 1 did it. 
GNOME 1 allowed you to configure different sets of menus for inclusion
in the main menu, or in a sub menu.  In this case, Red Hat's "defaults"
would be in the main menu by default, and everything else would be in a
sub-menu.  By telling the panel to put "everything else" in the main
menu, users could configure their menus with all of the clutter they
could want.

For what it's worth... I don't think the Extras menu is that bad; just
different.
