You're sure there are no dots (not even faint yellow ones)?  Here's what
I get using Windows version 0.9.0-g636302:



And using 0.8.5 on CentOS:



In both cases the dots are there but they are faint and yellow.  The
windows version makes the dots slightly more visible, although that may
be a display issue.
