I agree that there is no immediate solution to much of this situation. Gas prices have risen too fast for people to adjust in the short term. But in fact they are beginning to adjust. They are cutting vacations rather than driving; some can work at home a day or two a week. Car pooling is getting a bigger push. Many states (New Jersey) have extensive bus routes for commuters to New York City. It makes no sense for every driver to move 3000 lbs of steel along the highway just to get to/from work.
You are assuming that "everyone" (i.e., an "all or nothing" approach") is required to cut back immediately. That is far from the truth. We can start small and gradually fade in solutions to higher gas prices. I listened to Donald Trump this morning when he arrived in New Hampshire to meet with GOP leaders. He says Obama is doing nothing about gas prices. Trump says he can do a lot, he is the President. Trump has some tough talk about how the Obama should handle freeloading countries around the world. He says that China gets most of Libya's oil so why not let China take part in the uprising there. Also we should get tough with OPEC since they would never have existed if the U.S. hadn't set them up years ago. The OPEC countries are all in favor of the rebel uprising in the Middle East but are standing aside while the U.S., France and Britain expend their resources. Let the OPEC countries help out instead of trying to "screw us" (Trump's words). ----- Original Message ----- From: "MB Software Solutions, LLC" <[email protected]> To: "ProFox Email List" <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, April 26, 2011 10:31 PM Subject: Re: [OT] Obama's America > On 4/26/2011 4:35 PM, Nicholas Geti wrote: >> Oh.
