You're kidding, right?  The guy has to get to work so he can get paid. 
Hence, he really doesn't have a choice.  He must buy gas.  Sometimes 
those "alternatives" aren't an option, either.  For example, what about 
the people who make their living drivings goods around?  Public 
transportation doesn't apply.
