The Arctic is the big story about melting (even tho it isnt) and the arctic is where? NOT ON LAND. And as an aside, I think you will finda exactly NO ONE is worried about desalinization of the sea - as if that were even possible.

If the ice is floating freely in the see then 1/8 of it's volume is above the sea, so as soon as the ice has melted that eighth is extra water. But that's not the answer. The real answer is that most ice is not floating in the sea, it is over land and when that ice melts it goes into the sea producing not only a rise in the water level but also desalinization of the oceans.
