VFP is doing the data work. The system (LPR) reads the tag, converts the
image to text, and stores it in a SQLExpress table, which includes lat/lon
and datetime. Once I saw that, well the rest was easy. I have the program
asynchronously download the county's motor vehicle records and I check for
matching tags. If I find one, I check to see if the tag is expired. If it
is, I change the color of the button and play a wav file for that event.
After I get a match, everything else is based on the mvr address, with some
tweaks, like warrants have two different sounds. If only addresses match,
that is a hammer hitting an anvil, if the addresses AND the last names
match, I play a siren, because that is a higher probability stop. We also
download stolen vehicle info once a day from the FBI, which is part of the
off the shelf system. I've tweaked that too though, so we pull our own
stolen vehicle data every 30 minutes. XML is a wonderful thing!

Next year, we hope to include facial recognition into the system. They won't
let me add a microwave, even though it would be a great non-lethal device
for crowd control! (just kidding)
