We have an exhaust fan in the ceiling below the attic. It is a big- honkin' fan that sucks the hot air from the house and pushes it out of the various attic vents. We have a nearly 100-year-old house, and -- trust me -- it needs it. I despise window air conditioners, and this big fan saves us from having to turn the AC units on more than a couple of times per year. One only needs run this fan for an hour or two to turn over the whole house.
