Ah, so you're the guy who likes to go into Blockbuster and only see 1
movie in the store. Anything more than that is confusing. And
neighborhoods where all the houses are different? Too confusing!!
The only reason that there are only a dozen or so Windows 'distros'
out there is that a) Microsoft actively EOLs them and removes them
from the market and b) only Microsoft can create a distro.
You could download any distro, change a few things here and there,
and re-package it as 'VinceWare', making it an even 350 distros on
that pulldown. It's not that hard to do. And the thing is that most of
these distros are extremely similar except for some superficial
aspect. There are a few that are specialized for specific uses, but
unless you have a particular need for such a system, you can ignore
these.
Really, there isn't that much to decide. For regular folks, Ubuntu is
the default choice, with Fedora a close second. If that's too
difficult for you to choose between, then good luck navigating the six
flavors of Vista!
