CrossLoop also requires a person to be at the host location to allow the
remote user to connect. For me that will not work, as I often connect to
machines overnight. Thus far LogMeIn has been ideal as it does allow a
remote connection without anyone being at the host location. It also does
not require a client to set up a VPN circuit (beyond most of my client's
ability), nor do I have to set up an IP Forward with them on their
Firewall/Router (security issues and has limitations).

That said, as good as LogMeIn is I still prefer a VPN connection with
pcAnywhere over the VPN connection. I can remain connected for a virtually
unlimited period of time with no need to "keep the connection alive" by
moving the mouse as with LogMeIn.

Thus far I have had no need to look for alternative solutions (although I
have found VNC for Linux to be quite nice, but it does require VPN or IP
Forwarding).

Back to LogMeIn.com for a moment. I have decided that on a GoForward basis
any clients who are not able to provide me a VPN circuit I will be assessing
them a fee to reimburse myself for setting them up on a LogMeIn Pro license.
I have 7 Pro licenses in place now, 4 for myself, and 3 for clients to use.
With over 80 free license PC connections I figure I ought to do a bit more
to put revenues into the pocket of the folks that have provided such a
tremendous service. Their free license connection is really slick, and I
for one would not mind paying a nominal, far reduced fee for the service
were they to have a billing policy change. It is that good.

My 2 cents.
