Ed, you have invested untold time and effort into ProFox, so please do not take anything I say on this matter as criticism or arguments with you. My concern is that OT has degraded over time from an interesting place to something considerably less. I'm saying the quality has suffered at the hands of, I count 2, people who have an obsessive-compulsive need to post brain-farts and neocon propaganda. The degradation to OT is apparent in the list stats, not in arguments, because at least some people will vote with their feet before risking speaking on a delicate subject. Someone may say attendance is down because people moved away from FoxPro, but I happen to believe they would stay on OT regardless of the language they use, since that forum isn't language dependent. It's something else that drove people away, and I'm saying it's the brain-farters and propaganda monkeys. Yes, I can filter as you do, but let's at least consider an example from last night, where Ken Kixmoeller posted to say: > So why waste your time on "The Perpetual Whiner," either? He was the > first one in *my* filter. Now, aside from that fact that he is filtering me, this example does illustrate one part of what I'm saying: here he is using a filter, yet the person he's filtering got through to his mailbox anyway, since he's not filtering your posts. Thus the filtered person's whines and responses wound up in his inbox anyway. How does one filter for these "leaks"? > Email clients can filter messages based on lots of > criteria; 'From: ' address is the obvious choice. You've stated that you have spotted > people who frequently abuse the freedom afforded them on the > list. The obvious solution is to add their addresses to the filter, with the > result that your inbox is now much more tolerable. > Now imagine if all the members of the list did this. The idiots could > continue to spew amongst themselves, and the rest of us wouldn't have > to put up with that crap. Fact is, I don't have a better solution to this problem, but I wrote about it anyway on hope that someone else does. Why do I consider OT so important anyway? Because to me it's a model, an example of how the power of the Internet can be tapped as a force to counter the crushing authority of the powers-that-be who have seized control of our government. It's all we have to work with. When I see this model threatened with nonsense clutter and warmongering propaganda, I react as I have.
