My primary role is problem solving. That's what programmers do, and the role is even larger for the self-employed, and then larger still for those operating on a shoe-string. We live in the most exciting and most dangerous of times in all history. I will say again that every single day of my life I wake up with eyes wide open, anxious to jump out of bed and get back into the Alice in Wonderland adventure that has been this life. I could write jokes or talk about the good things, but the truth is that I'm also always fighting the clock, so I only get around to actually spending the time to write about the most pressing problems, and the rest has to wait. There are good things going on. In particular, my super-great family and I'm thrilled with how my product has settled down into a commercial reality. I am highly concerned about the major issues of our times, but I also believe that I'm not alone. I believe that if I were just a 'whiner' I'd be self-absorbed with my own problems and not thinking about those that affect everyone. And I wouldn't be offering solutions, because a whiner wants to whine, and solving problems takes away the reasons for whining. For every problem I've discussed, I've also offered at least one solution. How about we take a look at the specific problems I've been, according to you, "whining" about over the years. That's where the rubber meets the road, isn't it? This is off the top of my head, so I may miss one or two, but I think it's a fair start. Problem: this country has been massively duped into that f***king war by the neocons and their cohorts. They buried us in an intractable war to achieve their goals at the expense of our children and dollars. Solution: see posts about putting the perps on trial and apologizing for having been duped Problem: our political system no longer resembles a 'democracy' Solution: remove the money from election process and let's see what a real democracy looks like Problem: the election system is corrupted Solution: open source software solution with paper trails and auditors Problem: our privacies are being sold under our very noses to the highest bidders. Solution: privacy legislation by genuine - not sell-outs - representatives Problem: all internet traffic is being scooped up and put into a mountain somewhere for the use of the powers that be to squash their future adversaries, along with a host of other nefarious uses for that information. Those with the information will constitute a new class of authority that the non-privileged wouldn't even know about until it's too late. Solution: stop it immediately and see above on legislation Problem: there more are more people in the world that hate us today then ever before. In the age of wmd, this is a fatal situation Solution: worldwide (nuclear 1st) disarmament is the only rational course of action Problem: The authorities have locked up two million people Solution: for violent offenders convicted by juries, I don't have a better answer then lockup. For those who a jury decides cannot function in a free society, some sort of factory environment to keep them occupied and productive. For the rest, let parole boards work with a mandate to reduce the population to the lowest rate in the world. Problem: hypocrisy on drugs undermines respect for the law. Solution: a person isn't a criminal until he/she commits a crime. Problem: the abortion controversy Solution: The decision is between the woman and her God Problem: gay marriage Solution: call it a civil union Problem: global warming Solution: switch away from fossil fuels as quickly as possible to alternatives, and then improve the best choices. With money taken out of politics, Big Oil loses it's destructive influence. Problem: the poverty and miseries felt by a third the world's population Solution: elect leaders who sincerely want to fix this problem Problem: When the plug is finally pulled on the MI complex, which eventually it must, our warmonger-MI-Complex-economy will come to it's knees. Solution: Start building productive industries now to fill the vacuum of world needs. Problem: MS's shitty treatment of VFP and us. Solution: Enjoy the next 8-10 years of unfettered continuous development time, and if/when MS takes an action to pull the plug on our applications, we'll have to go to court. Alternative: in 10 years, it's possible that another path, with an automated converter, will become available. Problem: MS didn't learn from IBM, and that affected us in very important negative ways. Solution: At MS's own hand, we're outta there. Case closed. I'm now telling people to take a good look at IBM before jumping to something else. If really caring about these problems and spending time to work out solutions qualifies someone as a 'whiner', then I guess I should get a t-shirt with that word on it.
