Apple probably tests the Mac software before they sell it.  Also, Apple 
probably cares about product quality and company 
reputation. Apple probably realizes that selling garbage will not improve their 
image in the market place. Amazon says one of their 
largest selling products this Christmas season is the Mac laptop.

I haven't run AV-type programs on my Macs since about 1990. My Linux
servers run ClamAV to filter out the virus-laden mail received from
Windows clients on the internet, but nothing internal to its own
operations.
