Besides, with so many choices you are opting between "very good" and
"optimal" for your needs. So if you don't make the absolutely best
choice you are better off anyway.

Go tell CD proprietary industry about 'standardization'. Or tv norms, or...
Standardization comes with time and the maturity of technology.
