Like you, I have mixed emotions on this subject. On the one hand, if we are
a free nation, people should be able to say what they want. Farrakhan,
Sharpton, Jessie Jackson and many others should be allowed to espouse their
hatred, as should the klan, skinheads, etc. It's a world of ideas and the
"marketplace" should censure them by not attending their functions, etc. On
the other hand, you can't yell fire in a crowded building. The problem is
there are no clear cut rules. Black antagonists are treated one way, they
can say niggah, nigger or the "n" word. We are only allowed to use the
politically correct "n word" phrase. To even paraphrase someone saying
nig___ can be dangerous. When and why did we become so jaded? I saw Dick
Gregory being interviewed on Hannity and Colmes last night and he got on
them about using "n word". He said, "the word is nigger", why can't we be
adult enough to discuss it and call it what it is? I agree. He said I don't
the Jews would like people to start using "C" word to refer to concentration
camps, and the "n word" isn't any more right.

Then there's the issue of the other talking heads and what they are allowed
to say (Rosie, Rush, Babwah Wahwah, etc.)

Who decides what can be said? It's definitely a slippery slope. I'm no Imus
fan, especially since he endorsed Harold Ford, Jr., but I think he should
have the right to be outrageous and let the market determine his fate.

Madigan,

I have mixed feelings about it. There's free speech on the one hand, but on
the other hand he's been out of control forever and is just a mean man
hiding behind his notoriety and charity. Them's the breaks, and he retires a
multi-millionaire. He'll land on his feet and do something else.

Society is changing, and this is a reflection of that change. Young adults
don't have to put up with the same crap I had to put up with, and that's a
good thing.
