It doesn't need antivirus if:

1) you scan it once AND
2) you save a snapshot after AND
3) you restore to that snapshot every hour thereafter

1) you scan it once AND
2) the host computer's antivirus is up to date and always on AND
3) the virtual machine has no networking, usb, cd/dvd, or floppy access

So practically speaking, yes, it needs antivirus.
