But at the same time, my home feels a lot safer when we have several
carriers in the corner ready to respond to whatever is thrown at us.

You forget the financial aspects of building carriers, post offices , roads
or whatever.

We hire a new person to work, we generate increased money for him to spend
and we tax him at 20% which we can use to hire more people by putting more
jobs on the table.

Where we're going wrong is sending our work overseas, because by doing this,
we've now cut out that persons disposable income, which means he is no
longer buying, which means we are no longer taxing.

First scenario is great.
Second one will make us the next super power to be a has been.
