Jeff:

I Googled the error message and got 38 thousand hits. If you have "tried
everything suggested" as you say, you have had a busy couple of days!

Are they:

1. Both up to date on patches, and (optional) Remote Access tools? IIRC, M$
modified RDP in the Win8 timeframe so some older machines can't access
newer ones.

2. Is the target machine set to allow remote access?

3. Is there a 3rd party firewall involved, on either machine?

4. What's the network between the two?

There are numerous suggestions and I have tried them all. I can't believe
something that works so well on other versions of the OS are so difficult
here.

No two windows machines in the world are configured the same. You just need
to work out what's blocking this one.

Yes, you can. Perhaps you need to be logged in as the Administrator, or
have some other god-like power.

Please give us something to work with. How does the remote machine address
its target? How are the two supposed to find each other? Can the remote
machine ping the target? Can another machine within the target's local
network access the target via RDP?
