Thank you SO Much Ken! I didn't know about that Cleartype thing - or, at
least that it was the option that would resolve our problem. I had heard
about Cleartype in the past - maybe read about it on the web somewhere.

So - I went to the Desktop - as you suggested - switched it to ClearType,
changed my screen BACK to the way it was - ran the system - showed my Boss -
and he's happy with the way it looks now.

Thanks again for coming to my Emotional Rescue!  (Yeah - an old Stones
saying..)

I'm not sure if this applies to OSes after Win XP, but in XP, try changing 
the screen font "smoothing method":

Desktop>Properties>Appearance>Effects>

See what's selected under "Use the following method to smooth edges of 
screen fonts:". Default is "Standard" but usually "ClearType" looks better.

Beyond that, make sure you're doing these tests on identical monitors and 
graphics cards--or at least on a variety of different ones for both 
OSes--so you're not being unduly influenced by the characteristics of 
particular hardware.
