I've had an extension built and as part of that we added LED lamps instead of halogen. The new warm dimmable ones are really good, only 4 watts and the coverage area has really maxed out in the last year. We have had one failure out of 34 spotlights and we have now retro fitted them in every other lamp that would normally take a screw in bulb and will do the remaining old part of the house when we decorate.
The only real problem I have had is making sure if you have dimmable bulbs that you have a good dimmer switch. Our electrician tried three before we found one we were happy with. Yes the up front cost is far more than a traditional bulb but the 80+% (5 watts as opposed to 35 watts) reduction in electricity should compensate in the long run. http://www.simplyled.co.uk/GU10-LED-Bulbs-240v_B23PJ5.aspx If you are interested I could take a couple of photos at night to show you coverage etc.... -----Original Message----- From: ProFox [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Michael Madigan Sent: 12 April 2013 00:40 To: Pro Fox Email List Subject: [OT] LED Light Bulbs I was wondering how many people here have replaced their light bulbs with LED bulbs. I've read that there is a high failure rate and infant mortality rate. Looking at the reviews on Lowes and Home Depot, it seems to be hit or miss..
