Office 365(true exchange) at 4.00 a month with storage up to 25 gigs, and spam included is not a bad deal, Gmail for very small number of users, on a domain (5 I think ) is free,
But you can get spam protection from services in the 1.75 per box per month range.. if that is all you are looking for. My suggestion Office 365 Gmail Fastmail. All have spam filter included. And provide good quality email service..
