One of the cool Apple-only advantages is AirPlay, where you can direct the audio and/or video output to another device on the local network. I have an AppleTV device hooked up to my TV and stereo; I can play music and movies on my iPad and have them appear in full HD on the TV and full stereo on the sound system.
