This is where we disagree. That is a shrinking niche; most companies
today are using web-based development, even for internal stuff. And none of the
new developers entering the business have memory of a world without HTTP and
HTML.
You may be in a niche business where change happens slowly, but you
can't extrapolate that to the business world in general. The days of dedicated
desktop apps running on local hardware networks are numbered.

Sure, keyboards will be around for a long, long time, but the apps that
the keyboards write to will continue to change.
