Michael, If the drive is physically working (you can hear it spinning, drive light comes on), then you may want to give Steve Gibson's Spinrite utility a shot. You place this utility on a floppy, CD, or USB drive, boot from it, and use it to inspect and fix your drive.
Utility is about $90. Highly recommended!
