The republican (small r) nature of our Constitution, with its separation of powers, bicameral legislature, and bill of rights, remains good. Unfortunately, it's only an idea now, as the Constitution has been good for little more than toilet paper in quite a while. What the American system has become since Woodrow Wilson decided to let the bankers run our money supply, tax our people and in his words 'make the world safe for democracy' is another matter. One of the motivations of our founders was the mitigation of majority faction. The two party system, particularly in the last 50 years, has figured out how to neuter that design feature of the Constitution, and so what we have now looks rather different than it was intended. 'A republic -- if you can keep it,' said Ben Franklin. We kept it for awhile, but lost it. Whether we can get it back remains doubtful, no matter who wins. Neither party gets the concept anymore. - Publius > > -----Original Message----- > From: profox-boun...@leafe.com [mailto:profox-boun...@leafe.com] On Behalf > Of lelandj > Sent: Thursday, 2 February 2012 8:28 AM > To: ProFox Email List > Subject: Re: [OT] good news if true > > On 02/01/2012 03:21 PM, Michael Madigan wrote: >> Gallup is trash now. > > I wouldn't pay much attention to this poll.
