Well, IMHO the answer is like anything else... it depends. >From a job standpoint it depends on the type of person you are looking for. >Someone with 2-4 years experience in VFP and some SQL knowledge are not going >to command as much as someone with 10+ years developing VFP with SQL server. >Given the market share and status of VFP there are more of the latter than the >former out there. Especially on this list. :)
One HUGE thing is location. For example, I left a job in Los Angles a few years go to work in Sioux Falls, SD. The job I took there came with a big pay cut, but when you factor in the cost of living (gas, groceries, housing,..etc) it was pretty much a wash. Last year we were kind of forced to move back to L.A., and the job I have here now pays more than the one I had in LA previously... but I also have a 37 mile (1 hour+) commute each way with higher gas and insurance prices and a higher cost of living. If someone had a job in LA and offered what the going rate in Sioux Falls is, there wouldn't be much interest. So, what can you give us for info about the job/area? I know someone in the Midwest (not on this list) who might be looking and willing to relocate - have to check with them before I give their info out though. .. and if you'd consider someone who would work remotely, I know an LA-based programmer with 10+ Years of VFP and SQL server experience(and 5 years .NET) who is in need of night/weekend work. Seriously. Try getting a part-time job bagging groceries with THAT kind of work experience on a job app; I've been looking for over a year and not a single nibble (sorry, a litte off-track there...). Lou -------- Original Message -------- Subject: developer research From: Richard Kaye <rk...@artfact.com> Hi ProFoxers, If all goes according to plan, my company will be in the market for adding a VFP developer in the not too distant future and I've been tasked with doing some market research. I went to various job posting sites (Monster, etc) and of the handful of VFP related listings, most did not disclose salary. Since this is the largest group of VPF devs I know, I thought I'd ask for your (on-topic<vbg>) comments/opinions. Please contact me off list if you want more details. TIA for your insight. -- rk _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: ProFox@leafe.com Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/0bac2c1927422843b2c121c8b41684af0c56c...@dfw1mbx24.mex07a.mlsrvr.com ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
