After the issues I ran into with the PowerMac11,2 yesterday, I decided
to get my PowerMac7,3 up and running. I moved the same Samsung 850 Pro
SSD over to the PowerMac7,3 and tried there. I purchased a Radeon 9650
Pro for it as well since the NVIDIA card that came with it will not be
very useful. This particular Radeon card has two DVI ports labeled 1 and
2. DVI port 1 apparently only supports up to 1920x1200 while DVI port 2
supports up to 2560x1600. I have this system hooked up to an HP Z30i
2560x1600 display. Booting off of DVI port 1, everything works perfectly
including radeondrm(4). If I launch X, everything works fine there too
but at 1920x1200 at most according to xrandr(1) which is expected.
If I boot from DVI port 2 which should support the full 2560x1600
resolution, I get all the way to where radeondrm0 would show up after
the "root on" line but the console output is slow so I only see down to
where the first wd0 line is printed. The system either freezes
completely or has just the tiniest bit of distortion on the display as
though another line was going to be printed but stopped in the middle of
that process. I have yet to try using DVI port 2 with a 1920x1200 or
1920x1080 monitor which perhaps might make a difference. My dmesg output
is below when booting from DVI port 1.
I have not run into any DMA issues with the SATA controller like with
the PowerMac11,2. I just downloaded src via cvs with no issues. The only
other issue is that one of the fans runs at full blast which is fairly
loud. If I remember correctly, I have seen work on the G5 fans on
src-changes@ but not sure if this machine was one that would benefit
from that work. My dmesg and sysctl hw output are below.
