Google has decided to reject some mails for a local user (mails in reply to
gmail mails and to people they correspond with regularly, but that's not wha
this email is about).

Why is this message staying in the mailq instead of generating an immediate DNR
bounce to the user on the server? The 550 error is permanent, so what's it
holding onto the mail for?

The user would have no idea the email was rejected if I hadn't noticed the
message in the mailq.
