I shouldn't have let us get side tracked on CNAME, it just muddies the conversation. IMO - If the public is connecting to submission.example.com and never sees haproxy.example.com then why have haproxy.example.com in the first place? Putting a CNAME in the way accomplishes nothing. Just A record what the public is going to use to the server they connecting to...

    submission.example.com  IN A  11.22.33.44

...and be done with it.
