I think that’s the wrong analogy. In my web development work, I’ve never had a 
client say, “hey, to protect my brand, I’d really like to buy 400 variations of 
my domain!”.

The demand here is all from registrars hoping to sell the same “domain” 50 
times, it’s not coming from domain owners.
