Hi,
Postfix is giving me a very unhelpful message of just "SASL plain
authentication failed:".
My guess is that you have set "log_path" in your dovecot.conf. If this is
the case, the other line of the message appears in the dovecot log file,
for instance:
mail.log: <timestamp> ... SASL PLAIN authentication failed:
dovecot.log: <timestamp> ... auth: Info: passwd-file(...): unknown user (given
password: ...)
If "log_path" is not set in dovecot.conf, Dovecot's log messages appear in
the same place as Postfix, typically mail.log, and the two lines follow
each other.
