The "Envelope" refers to the record of the RFC 821 session as distinct from the email headers as documented in RFC 822... and subsequently amended, etc. Envelope: Session variables, doesn't travel in headers, but are state variables associated with the mail, such as contents of the MAIL FROM, RCPT TO: commands. They may ultimately get "Frozen Out" and added to the headers, but typically only at final delivery. Headers ... typically little more than comments. If you want to tear out the To: header, you need to look at other tools. Aloha mai Nai`a. -- " So this is how Liberty dies ... http://kapu.net/~mjwise/ " To Thunderous Applause.
