As I understand it, the stats will always be logged, and there will
not be an option to turn them off.

This is just a few characters added to the existing "disconnect" log
entry, rather than the dozens/hundreds of log lines added by
debugging, and shouldn't make a significant difference in log size.

This also allows you to retroactively examine normal logs for
anomalies, which isn't practical with debugging.
