Would some pain have been avoided if "permit_sasl_authenticated"
were part of the built-in default for smtpd_relay_restrictions?
It is included with the automatic safety net, but that does not
help if maintainers don't cooperate.
I can still include permit_sasl_authenticated if there is a need
to make Postfix more idiot(-maintainer)-proof.
