and A LOT of other software which may not whine in a log but behave strange sooner or later on a mordern linux system practically any software depends on openssl in the one or another way - that is why i prefer RPM, you would be unable to install openssl-1.0.1 as long only one installed package is dynamically linked against 1.0.0
