Yeah, this is to get us out of a bad spot on a mailman server.  The
original server (not run by me) failed with year-old backups.  At this
point there's literally hundreds of completely obsolete email addresses,
and retries are eating all the system resources on the VPS.  I'd rather
have a few false positives and clean out the dreck; the folks kicked off
the list can resubscribe.
