I'm testing the ubuntu12 64-bit beta, and had to make the following change to makedefs under the Linux.3 category. Just FYI:

Apparently, Ubuntu/Debian put some of the libraries in an architecture specific directory now (x86_64-linux-gnu). I hit this for libnsl.
