Nope, then there would be a backwards compatibility feature.

When I put the above in master.cf, and define
barracuda_smtpd_recipient_restrictions=whatever in main.cf, then
postconf does not complain about barracuda_smtpd_recipient_restrictions
so you must be making some mistake.
