Nope. I personally prefer the dedicated port for POP3/IMAP.

I think it should work. From http://squirrelmail.org/docs/admin/admin-5.html,
SquirrelMail is able to connect to IMAP and SMTP servers that use TLS. Since 1.5.1 version SquirrelMail is able to connect to IMAP and SMTP servers that use STARTTLS (which is different from TLS).
