I actually do hope that this is a mistake on my part, so I can get it

It is pretty much Debian default except for three additional sections
which should not take effect on initial port 25 connection -- unless my
understanding is wrong, which is very possible. I got these additional
sections from spamfilter howtos on the Internet.
Of the various check_ files mentioned in main.cf, some of them are
empty, except for the following, with a sample of what they contain.
All of the ones using the hash method have a current .db created with
postmap.
