[root@fc14 ~]# ls -ld /var/spool/mail
drwxrwxr-x. 2 root mail 4096 Mar 31 13:25 /var/spool/mail

The directory itself is empty.

I could set the directory sgid mail, but then users would be able to
reach each other's mail, no? All users are not in group mail, anyway.
