With default settings on reasonably modern hardware, postfix
delivers mail reliably and quickly. Twiddling controls
without an understanding of the problem is just as likely to
make things worse.
You need to investigate where the bottleneck is before you
make changes.
Go to http://www.postfix.org/documentation.html and read the
articles under "Problem Solving"
There are also numerous threads in the postfix-users mail list
archive about performance you should google for.
