This is the problem you must first understand and resolve. Perhaps
your syslog needs to be restarted? You can't just delete an active

Sorry i've probably not expressed it precisely enough. Postfix still
does smtpd logging. But it did not (and still doesn't) log anything from
these servers we got complaints from.
This irritated me firstly as their servers a and b still sent messages
without a problem to us (and got logged by postfix) but server c and d
did not even produce a byte of logging. But if they do not connect
correctly (or if our system does not let them connect) there is nothing
to log at all...
But when mails are coming from another server they (SYN), we
(SYN, ACK), they (ACK) and then we again (SYN, ACK) (which after
a few more (TCP Dup ACK) and (SYN, ACK) leads to a [RST, ACK]).
Likewise, this would be logged.
I do not think so. As far as i understand from this connection
http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~maegger/ieee/bad_smtp_connection.jpg
postfix does not get involved at all, as at this time only TCP Protocol
is involved.

Among other options, this would work:

Thank you both for this!
Best regards
